Herbs grown for their leaves
1. Rosemary
Rosemary is a great herb to grow on your balcony. It doesn’t require lots of space to grow but does better in pots that have at least 12 inches of space for their roots. Rosemary is amazing because it is rich in antioxidants and has anti inflammatory properties too. It is also a cognitive stimulant and helps in memory retention and boosts alertness.
2. Mint
Mint is another great balcony herb. It is very easy to grow and propagate and almost impossible to kill. Mint is known for its cooling sensation and aromatic fragrance. It is used in food, alcoholic beverages, juices and tea. Mint is also widely used in cosmetics owing to the fact that its properties are best introduced through the skin or inhaling the aroma.
3. Basil
Best known for its use in pesto sauce, basil is heavily packed with nutrients. It is a great source of Vitamin K and manganese, Vitamin A and C as well as omega 3 fatty acids. Basil can grow well on a window sill or on a balcony. You can also grow it hydroponically or with soil as a medium.

4. Lavender
Lavender flowers are purple in color and very fragrant. There are 3 types of lavender; Spanish, French and English. Originally a tropical plant, lavender needs adequate sunlight and just enough water to grow well. This makes it an awesome plant to have around you at all times.
Tea made from the flowers is known to reduce blood pressure and heart rate. Lavender is also good for curing insomnia because it encourages deep sleep.
5. Chamomile
Chamomile is a plant that produces white flowers that are harvested for their properties. Chamomile is a mild sedative that allows the body muscles to relax. It is often consumed as a tea on its own or alongside other herbs. It takes 2-3 weeks for the seeds to germinate and about 1 month before the flowers bloom.
Chamomile requires a lot of sunlight and should be exposed on the balcony for at least 4-6 hours.
